Yikes..... Just got done changing my fuel filters for the first time myself. Once again, I did this because of the info I had read here. The bottom one is a little tricky but, nothing too serious.
I couldn't see paying the Dealer $160 for it when I could do it myself for less than half.
Im a little embarrassed at how dirty they are. I should've replaced them awhile ago. Fortunately, I havn't had any problems yet (144,000miles), and truck runs great.
Normally most of us are a little reluctant to let things go, & certainly don't want to admit when we overlook something ourselves However, admittedly.... I should've been on top of these filters, & definitely will be in the future. I already bought the next set, have the mileage noted, & will definitely keep the pics on my desktop to remind me how I don't want my filters looking ever again.
Here is the first one:
And the cap:
Definitely pretty dirty.
Here's another pic with both of em :
I used motorcraft filters for the replacement. I'd say these filters definitely did their job. The fuel in the top canister was very clean. I'd say, I got my moneys worth out of these but, I've already promised my truck I won't do her like that again, & will replace them much sooner next time
WOW! How many miles on those? looks like that top one was starting to implode from the suction!
Truthfully..... I don't know. I know it's way too many though. I can't find my records of when the last time it was changed. When I lived in a city, I would have it serviced at the dealer regularly.
I moved last summer to the boonies. Im now getting into doing the maintenance, & such myself as the nearest dealer is 30+ miles away.
I've religiously changed the oil every 5000 miles. Been on top of the transmission too. Im about ready for a change of the transfer case, & diff oils.
Still scratching my head at how these fuel filters got by me. Im lucky I didn't screw anything up. However, I will be looking forward to seeing what the ones I put in today look like in 10K miles
Okay so you let it go long. We all make mistakes but you have corrected your mistake and you save about 125.00
Good job!!!!!
I work with people that can't a flat tire...
Thanks !
Pretty accurate on the savings too. It would've taken me half a day to get it done at the dealer. I had these swapped out in less time than it would've taken me to drive to the dealer, one way.
He saved a lot more than that. I would estimate at least three missed filter changes. Those are really dirty. At 10k mine still look new.
I so agree, my truck has 23K (I purchased the pre-maintenance plan) and at all the times it's has been at the dealership not once have they rotated the tires.
I doubt they never changed the fuel filters.
So far they have:
Ruined my oil pan bolt.
Not rotated my tires
Never replaced stock OEM air filter, it was nasty when I check later.
One time they replace the oil filter but not the oil.
Also good idea about the extra fuel filter guys. Will check into this.
