Post Ignition switch and door locks

I have a "90" F150. I would like to change the ignition switch, and door locks, so 1 key will do both, like the newer trucks. Does anyone know if an ignition switch from say a "96" would fit the column of my "90", and if this is possible?

i can't say whether a 96 would work but i am pretty sure you can have a locksmith "re-do" your locks and ignition to work with one key. i think you can just take your ignition tumbler in with your door key and they will fix you up.
correct me if i am wrong anyone.
Rusty.

On the "90" I have 2 different keys. 1 for ignition, and 1 for doors. They are structured opposite each other, so one won't fit in the other. So a simple re-key is not possible.

Ignition switch and door locks

I have a 92, The Ignition key cylinder failed and you could start the truck without a key, not cool. I went to me local dealer and bought a kit that had Ignition and door locks in it. It was a snap to change, took longer to get the door panels off. Anyway this might work for you.

Good Luck
Regards
Gasman

Ignition switch and door locks

Does anyone know the first year they went with one key (for ignition, and door locks)? I think it was 1991, but I'm not positive. I'm hoping a "91" ignition lock cylinder will work in my "90" if it is a "one key" setup.

It's not your ignition switch that is your problem. It is the door locks. You may be able to purchase new door locks that will be keyed to your ignition key. The round key was only used for doors on pre-92 and the glove box.

Just go to a Ford dealership and buy the kit gasman6674 mentioned. I bought one and changed them all over quite easily. Chances are your ignition switch (the cylinder is just a switch with a Ford key) is getting worn and will fail sooner or later - better to change it out while your key still works in it (you need the key to turn it to a certain position to push a pin for it to pop out).

You'll have your choice of a black or chromed lock & cylinder set. There is no reason that I know of that would prevent you from using the new cylinder in your truck, and I don't think the door locks have changed for years.

I don't think FOrd has a way of cross-referencing door keys to match your ignition key because it just isn't worht the hassle when the new set is so inexpensive.
