Misfire detection using torque , save $$$$
In the torque app main screen hit menu, hit settings ,scroll down to manage extra PIDs/Sensors ,hit menu again , add predetermined set and I choose Ford (including power stroke ) ,now you see a big list of things you can test live ,hit cylinder misfire (whatever cylinder # you like to see) scroll down and hit test ... well you will see on the top results a live misfire count data constantly updating ....I know because I disconnected COP #1( it took 1-2 mins and started counting)
I think its awesome
this saved me from buying a 150 bucks scanner that does mode 6 misfire detection
I hope you guys find this useful.
Misfire for other reasons that don't total up to a limit within a time interval can still take place without affecting drivability.
Another misfire is during OD when the EGR is called to open.
Does the app handle that?
Can the app trap a fault?
If not, the app is not a full diagnostic tool a good scanner is.
A misfire is defined as a cylinder rotation that is too slow for any reason compared to the 'average' of all the rest of the cylinders.
This average is a moving average and how the PCM accounts for engine degradation and wear over time. Pretty clever those software engineers are.
This time is measured by the crank sensor for each cylinder and compared that table of time limits.
Basicly the program has been set 'less' sensitive than it has the ability to be so the driver is not seeing every little thing that happens and thinking there is constant problems until an issue falls outside of limits set by engineering.
Good luck.
