I would like to enjoy the comforts of a newer style seat in my 1976 F250 Supercab, but I don't know of any new seats that would be compatible with the current bolt patterns. Does anyone have any information about this?
The materials that make up today's seats are quite different than those used in '76, and the seat in my truck is one of the most uncomfortable I've ever sat on. I'd like to use a seat from something within the past 2 years.
If I were to have to modify the bolt pattern to accommodate the seat, I would be willing to do this if it doesn't entail too much modification.
Sometimes you can transfer your old seat rails over to a newer seat and there's no other fitting problems , just bolt in. I used a 87 seat in a 79 once by doing that but i don't believe it was any better seat other than it was clean and never had any broken springs, looked the same as the 79.
Thank you for the replies. I'm shooting for a 2012 seat with the lift-up center console, center seat deal. I'm trying to not modify my truck anymore than it already has been, after the 6.5 diesel being installed.
I can tell you that I personally did not do the install. A friend of mine for more than 30 years did it. He retired from the Army's S. Korea Heavy Diesel base and got tired of 8 mpg from the 460 that was in it. He invested more than $13K between the engine, NV4500 trans, and the Banks turbo. I waited for many years to become the owner of this truck. I honestly never thought he'd ever part with it. The cab/chassis has 102k miles on it. The power train has 41K, all brand new out of the box.
I went diesel for the same reason. I wanted to drive me truck as much as I could and 8 mph is a killer.
That's a nice story about your truck, it's cool how some opportunities come around like that. I'd really like to see some pics of that engine in your truck. It's a unique swap.
I posted a few pictures in my album thingy. I'll get some more of all of the fire-liner insulation he also installed to quieten the engine noise. He did a complete professional install on this, and with the truck having just 41K, I believe my money was well spent on practically a brand new truck, and in a year model that I've loved since the first time I ever drove one back in 1978. American quality like these are no longer seen to this grade. That's why I bought 2.
here is a picture of the seat I put in my '76. It is out of an early 200? I had to make up some brackets out of angle iron and bolted them to the seat and then the floor. I will see if I have pics of that as well.
here you can a shot of what I did. It looks like that is the only picture I have of the process. I took the seat cover off to clean it and repair an oil spot on the pad.
