Has anybody had rocker arm problems with 6.4? Are there any better oil pumps or rocker arms? Run 15w-40 Valvoline and 2 Qts. Lucas Additive, oil change every 200 hrs. of engine run time or 5,000 miles. Have 156,000 miles on my F450 2008. This truck had new shortblock put in at 46,000. What next Ford doesn't seem to give a Blank, this is used to haul ltl freight. I have my own company, in our fifth year, thinking about switching to RAM. THanks Str8up
Don't know if an epidemic or anything but there has been a few broken rockers posted. Did you break one or just worried about breaking one, I think it's a repair you could do in you shop.
If you use it for freight and change the oil regularly you should be OK, I take it still has all the emission stuff on it, does it make oil??
Lots of questions before more answers can be had.
Thanks for taking some time to reply. I have two broken rocker arms and a couple of lifters & pushrods that are damaged. I have the Diesel Care through Ford But they will not put an engine in my truck. They are going to put all new pushrods & roller lifters & rocker arms into the engine. This motor does not make oil and for 156,706 these are the hours on the engine heads and rest of parts,4,580. I don't know if they reset the engine hours when they put in the shortblock at 46,900, you would think this is something they would do. I am very upset with this rebuild because it has taken so long to get done, due to Ford dragging their feet. Like I told Ford, I am losing about 500.00 to 600.00 a day. I thought Ford built these Trucks For Commercial use.
Yes, I had rocker arms broken on my ambulance. Ford only repaired the side that was broken and not the other side. The plastic clips on the arms are what causes the problem to begin with. The oil dilution caused too much wear teh techs said. In less than 18k miles the entire engine let go and had to be replaced.
Same problem with mine...I run hotshots and the rocker arm went out on me....they had to rebuild the top end of the engine.... took about a week to get rolling
Had my truck in for head gasket at 175K miles. Rocker arms were worn out, ball bearings on arms worn too. Two other trucks in the same shop for rocker arm repairs. I've been a Ford owner since 1984 and this is the biggest piece of crap I've ever owned.
