Did anyone ever have this problem? Where the pushrod seats in the rocker the rocker luttered out. It happened on the #1 exhaust cylinder. It seems like it wasn't getting any oil. Is it possible? When I replace the arm what should I look for? If someone has an idea what would have caused this please reply.
390, hyd. lifters Thank you, Craig
Thats what i was wonderin?...is it all buggered up like not enogh oil was gettin to it? or does it seem like there was slack and it was just going where ever it pleased?
Sorry I live hear in central pa, heart of pa dutch, somtimes I forget myself, luttered is a dutch word and is used for a hole that is worn bigger than it should be. Best way I can explain it. Last night I looked it over again the rocker is definitly dry there's no oil there . Just on that one rocker and rod.
Well in that case it seems your shafts arent getting oil to that side...I would pull the Valvetrain and look for any signs of blockage in the rocker shafts...and if it isnt there then you have a blocked oil passage coming up in the stands that Oil that side?
Several suppliers sell rebuilt rocker shaft assemblies, it's a bolt off/bolt on process. Check with your local Ford dealer, also...GPD (Ford's rebuilt source) sold 'em for years.
If only #1 isn't getting oil and the rest are, then you probably have a slug buildup in the end of the shaft. Pull the plug out of the end of the rocker shaft and clean it out. If the rocker has been running dry on the shaft, you should be considering replacing the shaft along with the rocker.
Nothing flows through the pushrods on an FE. They are oiled through a common rocker shaft, which feeds oil to the rockers which is then metered out to the pushrod socket.
I pulled it apart today,, cleaned everything real good before I put it back together I checked the push rod, I compared it to the others, turns out I had 3 different length pushrods out of the 8 on that side. Got ahold of some others and replaced all of them. As soon as it warms up a little I'll check the drivers side. This is a remanufactured engine with 8000 on it. I'm outside working on it and the windchill is near zero today hear in PA. Oh and it must have been blocked somewhere, now there's good oilflow coming through the rocker assembly. Thanks for your help, Craig
