Well I made a pun in the title. What i'm trying to say is this similar to the pertronixs set up or am I way off base here

It is similar with respect to it being an electronic ignition, but with the Pertronix the stock rotor is used. The other difference that I see is the price-almost half the Pertronix.

So if it works exactly like a pertronics set up...why would people not buy this at half the price instead of the 130 pertronics uunit

I have a Petronix III with their Flamethrower coil and never considered the Accel unit at the time of purchase. The Pertronix is known for being reliable with better performance than points.

It was more of just a pondering. Well this fits my budget much better atm, so I might be leaning more towards this one

I've had the original Pertronix l on my 428cj for over 10 years now and it hasn't missed a beat.

It's the same price as the original Pertronix. I've used the Crane XR-1, it works just as well as the Pertronix II. Not sure if it's still available though.
