I started my 2002 F350 (7.3 diesel) this evening and when I put it in gear, the transmission engaged but as I depressed the accelerator, the engine did not respond. It just stayed at an idle speed. I also noticed that all the lights and gauges on the instrument panel were off. When I first noticed the accelerator problem, I thought of a mechanical linkage problem but with the cluster being affected, I am wondering about something electric. Any suggestions on what to look for? Thanks in advance
There is no mechanical linkage on these trucks, it's drive by wire. A common issue is the shifter rubbing thru a wire harness in the steering colum which eventually shorts out and causes various issues, accellerator position sensor included. It may have caused a fuse to blow. The APS itself could also be bad but with the gauges going out at the same time my guess is a blown fuse from the harness shorting out. I have not had to deal with this issue yet so hopefully someone who has will be by soon to tell you how to fix it, meanwhile check the fuses and pull the cover off the steering colum and look for chafed wires.
