I have a 2006 F250 PSD. Lately I have been having problems with very long cranking then start or no start at all, after driving the truck for awhile.
I do have a long cold start problem due to a glow plug harness problem that I haven't fixed yet, but never have I had a hot start issue.
I do have 6 weeks left on my 7 year 200,000 mile ford Diesel engine warranty.
Any ideas out there? Or should I just take it in to the dealer.
Also checked the FICM and reads ok. Had it repaired last year by Ed at FICMrepair.com. Added the 40hp atlas tune.
Thanks,
Mike
They SHOULD fix both, because they are prime engine components, but I had a warranty on a used car that covered "all critical safety components" and wouldn't replace a failing seatbelt pre-tensioner.
The Snap To Connect fitting is what connects the High Pressure Oil Pump to the HPO branch tube, which I believe feeds the oil to the injectors. When the STC fitting fails, it can cause hard warm starts, as it actually pops out of its socket. This can actually lead to worse problems, such as erosion of the cover from contact, and bending of the branch tube.
The updated STC fitting (which they should install) is actually a one-piece fitting, and not prone to separation.
Also, there's a chance you've got leaking dummy rail plugs or stand pipes as well. Most likely though the STC fitting is crapping out. Mine at 88,000 miles was wiggling pretty bad.
