e4od overdrive not workin from start position
i have a 1990 250 460 4x4. i seemed to lost my overdrive gear. when I put it in drive i can rev up the engine and will only move about 2". but if i turn od off i can drive fine. when i get up to 35-50 mph i can usually turn overdrive back on and will automatically engage or it will rev up to about 3500 rpms then engage untill i come to a complete stop then i am back and no overdrive again. had at two tran shops to look at they both want to rebuild it. but they both say for different reason. AAmco says I lost my od gear or planet. freeway trans thinks it might just be seals and my fluid is blackish and smels burnt.
Think I should change the fluid first and see if that is the problem?

well this weekend I changed the transmission fluid. you and ammaco may be right in just might be internal but all the gears that do work shifts in nice and smooth have not actually drove the vehicle on the road yet though just 10ft forward and backwards.
