I have had my 6.0 for almost a year now. Being new to diesel trucks, I have always had the oil changed at my local Ford dealer who uses the Motorcraft oil. I think (for saving money) I am going to start doing them myself. My father in law who is a motorhead preaches to never change oil brands in motors. I would like to go to the Shell Rotella oil as I have heard a lot of folks on here talk of how good it is. So..the question is, is there any truth to my father in laws opinion or would I be ok switching? Everything is still stock. Thanks
All the oil has to meet requirements of the auto industry, so you would be ok switching.
The original owner of my truck was doing the same thing as you. I switched to rotella T6 5W-40, because I believe the synthetic oil is better under extreme temperatures. You could buy the filters on line or at walmart, us oem only!
I think you will find most people here run a synthetic of some kind. Shell Rotella T6 is pretty popular and can be picked up for around $21.00/gallon at Walmart. Filters will run you around $20. I'm usually out the door at about a $100 per oil change.
I switched over to the Rotella in 5w40 and it immediately made the cold winter starts easier. Still running it now and the truck runs great.
You can buy on-line and be assured of getting OEM filters (if you order racor or ford branded) and get all your filters (plus spares) at once and get free shipping.
Information for all ,Tractor supply carries rottella 5/40 syn and Hot shot secrete for oil and fuel,I knew they had rottella but not hot shot. ,my truck runs alot better on the syntetic 5/40 even better now that 4oz of revx went in,I belive hot shot and revx is of the same mix.
The biggest bang for the buck is switching to the 5W-40 synth. I put 2 qts of Hot Shot Secret in 1000 miles ago and as far as I can tell.....no change, no benefit. Let's see what happens around the 5000 mile mark. I'm hoping it wasn't an expensive scam.

I hope not mike,I did the revx and the cold morning start was gone, seemed to smooth things out as well,I dont know that much about hot secret other than what has been posted ,and so far people have had good results Idk.just thought I would get it out there with the oil for the interested

When you get a new cap with an oil filter, it is almost certainly telling you that you are buying an aftermarket filter.
DON'T DO IT.
Use only OEM filters and MAKE SURE that your filter cap is OEM.
That's the question I have with the site listed. You can buy Motorcraft filters. Just wondering if they come with cap and rubber o ring. I would not buy anything but oem/motorcraft.
dieselfiltersonline sells OEM filters (Racor and Motorcraft)

Disclaimer: I only order Air and Fuel Filters there. I have the BPD External Oil Cooler and it uses a "spin-on" type external oil filter, so I never have to worry about the Oil filter/cap issue.
If Revx isn't working for you, try Archoil 9100, 16 oz. I've been using it over the past 3 oil changes and have heard a difference right away. Performance and gas mileage might be a bit better too.
