Hi From Loomis Ca
Hi I have been lurking here for a few months and decided to join up so I can ask some advice.
Im 62 grew up in th 60s in San Jose. I lusted after the 66 ford Mustang the 427 Cobra The Lotus Cortina and the Indy cars with the 255 cu inch ford V8 and the bundle of snakes exhaust. I hated Mopar and Chevy lovers. But what did I know I was 16.
My first car was a 1951 DeSoto my dad bought from a guy for $1. The fluid drive with safety clutch tranny wouldnt shift into hi My dad said it just low on 10 wt oil. We added the oil and it drove like a dream. My Dad gave it to my cousin who was in the Navy in San Diego. He later became a SEAL in Viet Nam. Made it through ok.
My first Ford was a 1976 F100 Ranger 302 with a Clark 4 speed over drive.
I currently have a 1973 F100 Ranger 260.Auto with 38,000 miles. It was a Barn Find. It has the old JC Pennys CB radio and Sears tire and Atlas tires. It was an old mans fishing truck. After he died it sat in a barn for 16 years.
My newest truck is a 1972 F100 custom 302 w Granny low. A guy was having a new baby and put it in craigslist for $650. He put some new parts on it, told me it did'nt run very well and if he couldn't get his money out of it it was going to Pick and Pull. so I offered him $600 and rescued it. I just couldn't see it go to the crusher. The first thing I found is it wouldnt Idle and the gas was coming out the top of the 2bbl. I adjusted the float. took off the carb and found the spacer plate was upside down so it was sucking air. Started it up now it idles OK. the guy gave me new plugs so I put them in.
I took it out for a test drive, It starts to sputter and dies at speed, 30 MPH and acts like the Vac advance is messed up and starving for fuel. And. It will die at a stop sign. It has about 5 gal of old smelly gas in the tank I put some injector cleaner stuff in the tank.
Well thats the reason I'm here. I'll post some more specifics in another post :cheers:
