? for all you out there? I just bought a 2003 f150 xl 4.2. 4+2 I have read alot of bad things about this motor ala 1997 1998 model years. my ? is have they worked out these problems in the newest models or did i make a mistake buying this truck. Any replys would be appreciated. Thanks
I am in the same boat, cept mine is an XLT Flareside and I was skeptical about the 4.2L as well even before I bought it. I am a die-hard Ford Motorist and figured that the greatest Truck maker in the world would stand by their product, if not I would drive the thing right back into the glass doors and leave the keys with the first person I saw. Not really.
Yes some of the earlier 4.2s had problems. Not all of them or even most of them but some of them did. Remember that for every one that we hear about on here with problems there are many, many that dont have problems.
The newer ones are better though with upgraded gaskets etc. i dont think you have anything to worry about
Ya, I think Dave said it pretty well. You always hear about the problems, but never about the things that work right and run well. From personal experience, I have a 1997 with the 4.2 and it has not given me any problems. The motor has been replaced in it but that's because it was stolen and when recovered, the motor was blown. Other than that, I have never had any problems with my truck.
i have a 98 f150 xlt and i have no problems with the engine which i mean its automatic and it has no ***** for a v8 i mean if i am really gonna want any horsepower outta this thing im gonna have to bore and stroke and add a supercharger along with headers and exhaust. by the way anyone know where they would sell a lift kit atleast 6" or taller?? mine isnt tall enough.
