I want to get a carb for my '85 460 to rebuild at my leisure (and in case I screw it up). Is there a site somewhere that has a list of what mine might have been used on other than my F-250?
The numbers on mine are:
E6HE-9510-AC
LIST-50305-2
1336
Ford calibrated their carbs pretty close for emissions, so there is not going to be much of a interchange with them. Even some of the other 460 carbs would fit but technically may not have the same number because of some minor change.
Sometimes you can go to Autozone or some other website that sells reman carbs, and they will have one part number for their reman carb, and then they will have a list of OEM numbers that it can be used for. This is probablyas close as you will get. If you get the other numbers, then you might be able to use them to find the application.
Yeah, I was thinking I'd just look for 460 from an '85 (give or take a year) F or E series truck.
On the other hand, I may not have that luxury as I've been smelling fuel vapors recently and noticed leakage on the carb when I went to get the numbers again. It looks like gaskets are leaking.
So that hastens my next question, where's the best place (value for money) to get the kit. Seems a wide variation in price. carbkitsource.com - $90 + $21 for a float CARBS UNLIMITED INC. - $49 + $9 for a float
Advance Auto - $29-$49 but aren't very specific.
After my experience with aftermarket parts and kits like Sorenson, there is no way I would use anything but genuine Holley parts.
Even a Motorcraft kit is likely to be 20 years old and dried out at this point.
I would definitely get either a Holley kit or a Motorcraft kit if you can find one. Both
are much better quality than the vast majority of aftermarket carb kits.
Got my genuine Holley renew kit #3-1346 from Summit Racing. I think it was $49.95 + $10.00 for shipping (but if your order is big enough I think the shipping is free).
You'll also need an intake manifold to EGR plate gasket, an EGR gasket, two floats (one for the primary and the other for the secondary), carb cleaner and brushes, and a source of compressed air for blowing out all the little passages.
You'll also need a fuel inlet filter. Don't know how your fuel inlet is set up, but when I did mine I changed the fuel inlet filter over to one that connects to a rubber fuel line (originally it connected to a metal fitting but I was having leaks).

Just in case anyone happens to know off-hand.
Damn Tom, I gave my old one E5HE-9510-AC, LIST 50260-3, 1816? to one of the other members on here, rsh27921. If he might be willing you could PM him.
Is your carb the same number as mine? I sent the numbers to Holley and just got an email from them saying I need renew kit 37-1536, which is about $89 the cheapest place I can find with a quick look, Amazon.
I'm not sure about Holley kit 37-1536 vs 3-1346. Both would have the correct gaskets but the different would would most likely be the power valves. Both would be the 2 stage types but one might be for the Mustang and the other for a F150 engine. The more expensive kit, 37-1536, might also contain the floats. I don't know that for sure but you could ask Holley about it. I know the Motorcraft kits most always contain the floats. They are hard to find now but the Numbers are CT-1443-D, which is the best one, and also CT-1541-B and CT-1376-F,which is for a big truck,
but has the correct gaskets and other parts and also some parts not needed for your
application. The biggest different between all the kits is the powervalve.
On my truck, which is a modified 351W with an Edelbrock performer intake and a
Ford Motorsport performance cam and headers, the 4180 works best with a one
size bigger primary jets and a single stage 6.5 Holley power valve.
