Were the 460's used in vans much? "Local" junk yard has an 85 or 86 E-250 and I'm trying to decide if a 1 1/2hr round trip drive is worth gambling that it would have a carb I could use. I don't think they'll tell me if I just call.
Other thing I forgot to ask is, would an automatic and manual use the same carb?
lot's of van's used the 460.
A 250 probably, E350, more than likely..
The auto version will have a kickdown linkage for the c6, the manual will not.
Ask the yard for the VIN
Check the letter in the eighth position.
If you find a 460 in a van grab the Saginaw PS pump! and all the bracketry from the head out.
When your C2 pump pukes its guts you will have a quiet and powerful replacement.
Tom, the throttle shafts are different. All the service carbs I've seen came with the downshift lever on them and a screw through it to lock it to the throttle lever. They came packaged with the screw, clip for it spring and bracket so they could be used on either manual or automatic transmissions.
Well, no joy on a carb at the junk yard. Also no joy on any 460 PS pumps.
However, I did score an OE tailgate in excellent condition. Normally I'd call it merely good condition, but compared to all the others I've found....
$55.
Their web site said $25 and when I told them I got, "Yeah that needs updating."
But $55 is still good. Glad I had the right torx with me.
I've got my '86 460 OEM carb I was actually just getting ready to toss if you're interested. I went with an edelbrock 10 years ago and its been sitting ever since. Ran when I pulled it off.
