Guys,
Title says it all. I traded off my 2004 6.0L F250 SuperCab for a new 2013 6.7L F350 SuperCab. So far I love it. The Wife likes it too because she says it doesn't stink of diesel and its quiet.
Options of note: 11,200 GVWR, Camper package, FX4 package. This thing should be able to haul my Lance camper legally.
I'm looking for any advice from you guy on how I should drive and maintain this new truck to avoid being another horror story.
I drove my 2004 6.0L for 117,000 before it started getting real expensive (EGR cooler, oil cooler, FICM, fan control module, unit bearings, alternator, turbo pitting). Managed to get $10,000 trade in for it needing a turbo. I really liked it while the good times lasted.
Don
Don,
I had a 6.0 too - loved the truck but when I lost the turbo, I figured it was time to move on. The 6.7 is a total blast. I've been daily commuting in my mom's 2002 F250 with the 7.3 as not to pile up the miles on my 6.7 - but I just got back from running around a bit in the 6.7 and what a difference it is from the old stuff.
congrats and enjoy your new ride.
550 miles on it now.
I am working on learning a new habit: letting it idle for at least a minute before shutdown. The idea as I understand it is to let the EGT come down some to help prevent oil coking in the turbo bearings.
Don
I 2nd the reading the manual, new things and a lot of electronics watching the oil and DEF. The only special thing most of the guys are doing is putting in fuel treatment with every fillup. It's the Diesel Power or something, I do it so often I don't even read the jug, Wal-Mart has the white or silver bottles and it doesn't seem to matter to my truck which one it drinks.
I used to let my truck run about 30 seconds before turning off, but it really didn't seem to change numbers on gauges I could see. Then I put in a little electronic gizmo and I could see more readings, letting it run longer didn't matter unless I was towing the 5th wheel or just finished pulling a sled or running 1/4 mile trips down the road.
Better safe than sorry I guess. The next best thing you may find pleasing is the Rancho 9000 or Bilstein shock swap, it's worth it.
Granted I have the 2011 job 1 turbo, after about 30 seconds mine will spin up, down, up then one final release of boost.
If I'm under 400°F on EGT1, I shut down at that point.
If I shut down prior to that turbo sequence you can hear the turbo spool down after the engine is off.
Hot southern summer days with agressive driving takes a little over a minute to get to 400.
I don't know where I got the 400°F number other than it gets there fairly quick.
It's just what I've followed since I hooked up the CTS two years ago.
??CTS??
I didn't buy the Lariat package with the extra instrumentation so I don't have any EGT readout.
Is the CTS any aftermarket or additional instrumentation?
I think I want an EGT gauge.
Don
I am pretty sure he is talking about the Edge CTS monitor, I have one as well and it tells you a lot of information, level of DEF fluid, EGT at 4 locations, Tranny, oil, and coolant temps, when it is regenerating and more.
Yes, Edge Insight CTS. It's a monitoring only device from Edge.
I monitor EGT's, temps, soot level and 1 or 2 other random ones like boost and voltage.
Hey djbutler, welcome. I too had a 6.0 , An '05 Supercab F-350 XLT Lariat. Replaced the Turbo, Intercooler, Ficm, EGR couple times, finally the head studs!!..............loved that truck!! Now, when I get in my 2012........practically wet myself everytime LOL. 25,000mi later not even 10 cents worth of warranty work!! Nite an day difference!! Really can't see bettering this one.......
I did it too! Today I traded my 2011 250 6.2 for a left over 2012 350 6.7 Crew XLT FX4 with a lot more in options than my old truck. Feel like I made a good deal. Was on cloud nine on the drive home. While the 6.2 is a great power plant, I feel it was a bit light for my needs. The 350 6.7 is a completely different ride. Maybe the camper package and snow plow preps have something to do with it. The 6.7 is very responsive. Just hope I don't have any of the DEF problems I've seen reported or the shift flair problems I had on my 2011 6.2. 8/12 build date on this one so I guess we will just wait and see.
Like someone else pointed out, I think I peed a bit on the way home. What a sweet ride! LOL!!
I'll post some pics once I have all my old steel from my 2011 mounted and the truck is dressed up a bit.
My first diesel so I am learning a lot from you good folks!
