may be someone can help me. i have a '77 f-1oo/302/180,000 the problem is the oil pressure goes to about 60 and stays while i'm on the highway or somewhere where i'm on the gas pretty good, but when i come to a stopit drops down to about 40 psi. the longer its running, the lower it gets at idle. back to running it good, it'll stay around 50psi. i've had the truck since 150,000 miles and its done it since i had it.
i would just like to get some oppinions on where i should start or maybe the possiple culprit. i just changed valve gaskets, wires, and plugs. i keep it up pretty good and try to do something every weekend, and getting ready to get at fixin the pressure.
With 180,000 miles things may be starting to get loose so your pressure will drop with age. I don't know what is normal for your engine but 60 highway and anything over say 20 or 30 at idle is probably OK.
You might go to a thicker oil which should help some. Maybe a 20W50.
Are you burning oil? Do you have any noise from the engine that would be rod knocking or tappets? all signs of age.
You might also look into a new pump, but most likely it is overall age.
Unless this engine has had a rebuild, you can expect it to get looser.
