I received a new CD for father's day and tried to put it in the factory 6 disk player and once I removed the cd I wanted to and tried to load the new one, I got a cd error message. Now it won't even play the 5 cd that are in there and I can't get it to eject them or accept the new one. Is there an easy fix, or am I looking at a new radio? I'm guessing I won't find one like the factory one, but will an aftermarket one work with the steering wheel controls and all? Sorry for the long post, just trying to get the info correct! Thanks in advance!
mine has 6 cd's stuck in there at the moment from the prior owner. Every now and then when I start the X I get some hillbilly music for 1-2 seconds and then the radio errors out
The one that came with my parts truck was a 6 disk. Tried putting it in my black Excursion to see if I could get the steering wheel controls to work. Found the CD player wasn't working.
Took the radio back out, disassembled it from the back, only to discover a disk stuck in there. It was a church/bible disk, so it had a paper label that was wrinkled. Didn't know if that had anything to do with it or not. I was able to finagle the disk out the back.
Reinstalled, tried to insert new disk in there. No go, kept getting CD error. Gave up and put the old one back in.
Sold that radio to someone on here (I think it was Donn) who was going to try to repair it. Haven't heard since.
Subscribing as well. I found out soon after we bought it to avoid discs with any kind of raised label-especially paper. I got that one out the front and it worked for a while but now it's all jammed up. Now the motor runs trying to eject a disc every time the unit comes on.
Sorry I'm not any help either. Some day I'll probably rip the unit out to see if I can extricate the discs. I'm just not ready to replace the unit if I can't put it back together again.
Mine was same and finally ate the batteries on a slow constant drain. Put in a new Pioneer with the USB port for $125 at Wally World. Never been happier. Sounds much better and no more battery drain. Now all my music is on a 32g drive and I never have to change a cd or radio station. Kits and wireharness also at Wallys total was less than $150
Sorry for some reason notifications were off. I do not have steering wheel controls for radio. It does come with a cute tiny remote tho. I use the remote when working outside to adjust the volume. Still loving this radio more than any in the past.
I'm in a similar boat, but may have an answer for some of you. My Ex has the optional DVD system, as well as steering wheel controls. The disc transport mechanisms are shot in both my CD player and my DVD player. I've taken both apart (to some degree) and there are small plastic parts in both which, to my thinking, have failed and broken due to basically 10 years of heat (think of how hot it gets inside a car) and wear. I know there are people out there more equipped than I to fix things like this, but... my thinking is that in these cases there is no way to fix them other than to replace the transport mechanisms.
Though I have never been unhappy with the quality of either of these units, I am currently researching (trying to find threads on here) replacing both units with more up to date, modern stuff with all the bells and whistles, and still have connectivity between the two and working steering wheel controls, as well as using the original DVD screen.
There is, however, another solution. Some months back I did a little research and found a company that I believe made these, or when I last checked would at least service them. It is Electra-Sound Inc., in Parma OH, and their phone number is 1800-252-4200. The only problem is, it ain't cheep. When last I checked (about a year ago???) the price was $297.00 to do the radio/cd player, and $247.50 for the DVD player. As I recall, these are the prices if you haven't already "worked on it" yourself, in which case, (if I recall properly) they'll charge more for.
Good luck and keep us posted if you go this route, I'd like the hear the results.
Mike
