E4OD. Mods, temps and towing.

1995 F250 4x4 psd sc, lb. I have done some modifications and am looking for some insight to see if things are correct in my build.

My configuration;

PSD, 220k miles with original E4OD, no rebiulds. Ts-six position, 3" diamond eye downpipe, deleted cat, deleted muffler. Rebuilt fuel bowl, new mechanical fuel pump, EGT gauge, trans temp gauge, boost gauge. 3.55 gearing with new axle, trans and transfer case fluids. D50 TTB is freshly rebuilt with new bearings and MM stainless hubs. Not lifted and has 235/85/16 tires. I can achieve 22mpg unloaded on the 75hp tune setting. While towing my 8500 lb TT, I have gotten 12.32 mpg up to the Shenandoah valley (VA) as of yesterday. (First tow with modifications). I was getting 15mpg and 8mpg towing before rebuilds, leak repairs etc.etc...

I just replaced the TC with a triple disk rebuild unit from Floridatorque.com that has lowered my temps significantly as the turbine in the old converter must have been either eroded or warped in such a way that when unlocked, there was entirely too much wasted power and a large jolt when locked. New converter cured this and lowered temps from an outrageous 300* to 240*.

I now have removed the stock cooler, removed the radiator from the cooler circuit and installed a 2001 psd 9row cooler into the center of the front bumper. I also added a derale 10"x10" stacked plate cooler with a 10" electric fan configured as a "push" fan as space is at a minimum.

My question is, I get temps of about 185* while normally driving in 75*-85* weather. While towing this 8500lb rig, I have seen 235* towing up the mountain. On level areas it drops to 200 or even down to 190. Is this ok? Or should I be looking to add another cooler?

After some searching, I think I am going to reintroduce the radiator cooler into the system. This may help some, if there is even a problem with that.

Yep, I don't have an auto, or much knowledge of them, but the guys on here that do say to leave it running through the radiator no matter what kind additional coolers you have. Makes sense, it's just that much more cooling. Sounds like you have a nice rig.

U should search for the cooler restriction thread a few days ago.mark kovalsky(?) had good points about too much cooler restricting flow.he always advises leaving cooler in rad hooked up.

I dont know much about auto's but from reading around here your temps seem pretty good. 235* on a climb doesn't seem too high.

All joking aside, I just tried removing the derale cooler and reimplementing the radiator cooler. It is a brand new radiator. Instantly spiked to 230*. Going back to the way it was.

How many rows is your cooler? Do you have your radiator cooler connected?
