Pulled the trigger on a Diablo Chip!

Just ordered a Diablo Tri Mode Sport chip for the 02' X, can't wait for that to come in and play around with it! Got the stock, 54 hp / 78 hp mode chip. I also purchased the guage pod (2 guage) from MotorHaven, so for people who are un-aware, they do sell guages, and the pods for our trucks! I did not even know until I asked. They were extremely helpful and cannot wait. I will be buying the EGT / BOOST guages hopefully soon. I will be running in 54 hp mode until I get the proper guages installed (yes I know I did the purchases in the wrong order!). I just could not wait to get the chip . Can someone tell me what I should be expecting for normal boost psi? So I can get a guage that meets my needs closer. Can anyone give me a heads up as far as where to hook the boost guage to? It is my understanding the best spot to get the temperature is pre-turbo for the pyro, am I correct? Any hints on installing these would be more than welcome. Smoked a chebby duramax yesterday, which is nice to see that the PSD had more nuts than it . With the chip he will see nothing but Ford tail lights. MotorHaven was great to deal with! Thanks again!

You probably ought to get a boost guage that reads up to 35psi. With my propane flowin', I can get slightly over 30. As far as hook up, you tap into the boost line leading to your MAP sensor with a tee, and run the line up to the guage.
So you'll know what to expect, when cruising on the freeway at 2000rpms, I get 3psi boost. Any rise in the road takes it up to 4 or 5psi. My truck has a different turbo than yours, and I don't have an intercooler yet, so the numbers might not exactly match from truck to truck, but we're probably in the ballpark.
(Once you get the guages in, you'll be ditching the 54hp program for the 78hp, and looking into getting the chip reflashed to 100hp. Get yourself a downpipe, and increase the exhaust size, so you can keep the temps down.)

my 2000 on a 120 chip cruises about 10 psi and hits 25 when the pedal is wooded rising to a cool 34 before I run out of highway and gears. (about 90mph) All of this at a cool 1400 degrees. (well maybe 1600 sometimes if its uphill)

Oh and I have a Autometer 60 psi gauge.

1400 is too hot, 1600 is way too hot!

You need to open up the exhaust before you do any more WOT driving.

The exhaust is 5.5 inch from teh turbo back. no cat, no muff. Note: my EGT sensor is mounted PRE turbo so those temp may be higher than what you are used to seeing on your truck if the sensor is mounted at the turbo or after.

Pre, post, or somewhere in the middle, with those temps your going to start cracking exhaust manifolds, turbos housings etc.

I agree. 1400 is WAY to hot no matter where the you have the sensor mounted. You're asking for trouble. It's my understanding that the turbo fins start to glow and warp if not melt around 1270 degrees. If your truly at 1400 (you might want to check the accuracy your gauge) Then it's just a matter of time.

I jiust got the truck and I have the same setup on my friends truck. His temps show about the same as mine. Hes had his problemfree for three years now. Very seldom do I see these temps because I hardly ever push it that hard. Only at the track and once in a while getting on the highway. Towing I can haul uphill at 70 and never crack 1000 degrees. If it does blow Im not afraid of getting a little dirty though.

1400 will be ok as long as it is very rare, and depending on which connecting rods you have. 1300-1350 should be your redline, it'll run 1000 all day long and never hurt anything.

1600 is definately way too much, especially if you're only getting to 90mph by the time you peg, look into getting some timing pulled out of that chip, or some more air into it.

I've never heard of a 5.5" downpipe for a PSD (and I've looked), mind sharing where you got yours?

I had it custom built. There is a guy here in town that makes the best exhaust i have ever seen. he built mine out of 5.5 inch piping, a 12 inch chrome tip and no muffler for $575. he builds the flange for the turbo to the pipe himself. With the gears I have and the small tires 90 mph is about all I can get.

With that big of a tip diameter, what kind of ground clearance do you have left?
