That does not look like a 12" dia. tip. Why would you have a five inch downpipe? What all mods have you done? I am running true 5" duals, but have extensive modifications done, from the crank to the intake. Just curious
I read (on Motorhaven's website) that the Diablo chips will also increase gas mileage 2-4 mpg on the PSD, as long as you drive the same. Any truth to that claim? I am new to the PSD and am a little dissapointed in the gas milage. I read about 20-plus mpg on this site, and I only see about 15 mpg (95% city driving , so far). Getting the performance boost with increase in gas mileage is a no brainer.
Where is the cheapest place to buy the chips? Is the Diablo chip THE chip?
You can get around 19 if your lucky, stock with being very light footed on the highway. I dont know why people buy a 7000 lb truck expecting great fuel mileage. Dont expect it in a fullsize truck. And its a pretty big engine. Not to mention it will tow the hell out of anything. My father towed a goose neck trailer with a 99 PSD and loaded the trailer weighed close to 20,000 pounds. He towed it from california to missouri and the trailer split a rim it was loaded so much. It was illegal but he did it. These diesels are mules. I have heard the chips do help 2-3 MPG. 15 in the city is pretty good if you ask me. Keep it under 2000 rpm and dont accelerate to heavely.
My fuel mileage expectations were never high, until I read postings on this site from people claiming 20-22 mpg. That did excite me and was the factor that finally swayed me to the diesel over the V10 (I could not make up my mind prior to that). I am just trying to find out if anyone with direct knowledge and experience with the Diablo chip has seen the 2-4 mpg increase that they claim. That would put me in the 17-19 mpg territory in-town, and I would be thrilled with that.
Originally posted by Honda Ghandi I had it custom built. There is a guy here in town that makes the best exhaust i have ever seen. he built mine out of 5.5 inch piping, a 12 inch chrome tip and no muffler for $575. he builds the flange for the turbo to the pipe himself. With the gears I have and the small tires 90 mph is about all I can get.
I've got a feeling the downpipe is 4" that goes into a 5.5" exhaust pipe. Ain't no way a 5" downpipe will fit unless you bang and dent the hell out of the firewall.
cobaum!
If you bought the V10 you would probably be getting a whole lot worse fuel mileage than that. As for the chip or programmer giving you 2-3 MPG increase in the CITY i do not know. Maybe ken will chime in on that subject?
