Gt40

Any one purchase these at rock auto if so are they the real deal or just a cheaply made head? From the explorer or the cobra I'm looking at a set to put in my f150 302 5.0 1996

Usually Rock auto carries quality stuff, but I guess some research would be in order, you might also give them a call or send them an e-mail with your concerns.

I agree I have been exceptionally happy with Rockautos return policies. That being said I didn't even know they sold the GT40 heads. I bought a set from the JY and when I figured out what it was going to cost me to rework them and port and polish them I just bought Aluminum heads.

There are some really good cast iron heads fairly reasonable... better than gt40's, there have been several threads about it.

Anyone know what these cast iron heads are ? Or have used them in comparison to the gt40

Two versions of gt 40. Original used on the lightning and some mustangs. P version on some explorers. I raced an Ameriacn sedan in SCCA for quite afew years and the gt 40 was the best of the cast iron heads. Still have a few sets new in the box bare or complete. PM if you are interrested. Those are aluminum, though. I think he was talking about just cast iron. Which he would then be right, GT40 and then GT40P's.

OP, just go to the junk yard and buy a whole motor. Most idiots working the counter don't know what they have. Last 2 GT40P motors I picked up were 200-250 bucks and they were complete too, intake to oil pan everything there
