I have a '99 sd, sc, srw,4x4, v10,m 3.73 lsd, gvw 9900. I put a new truck camper in it. I could not keepit on the road. I instaled helwig sway bars f & r, bilsteen shocks, rear air bags, and superduty steering stabilizer. It is better, but not good. Itook the truck with camper to the scale, front 3900# rear 8260#. That does not include full tanks and towing the miata. I immediately ordered a 2003 daully. Now I'm wondering if I should install a daully conversion kit for the '99 or wait till the f-450 with 8' bed is availible. Any adive would be appreciated.
Caribou I just sold my F450, Great truck but they will never be available from Ford with a pick up bed. The wheelbase is 4" longer than a F350. I had a Pearson Ford (San Diego CA.) Install a stock F350 bed on it. The bed was modified and lengthend to fit the F450 and looked factory. I Towed a 43" Race Car trailer which weighed 18000# with a 4200# tongue weight no problem. Most weight I carried in the Bed was one pallet of floor tile 5400# Droped the truck 3" transported this load 100Miles no problem. Sold my truck with 82000 miles on it with original brake pads, that the beauty of the F450, Hugh Brakes
There was supposed to be a 2003 F450 pickup, it was even listed in some of Ford's incentive programs, but it never happened. Of course, no one at Ford knows what I'm talking about: at least that's the official line so far......

Some of those new campers do get very heavy. I wouldn't waste the money on a dually conversion. You would always have a "non-stock" setup to try to sell later. The good part about the new F350 that you ordered is that it is stable. The bad part is that by the time you add the heavier axles, wheels, flares, etc, it almost eats up the extra 1600 lbs of payload over the SRW rating. Believe me, I looked at this long and hard. The F450 is great, but if you're unloaded, it will shake your teeth out.
Your rig is admittedly quite heavier than mine on the scales. I went the route of adding the Rickson wheels and 12 ply tires (as well as air bags, shocks). They don't add near as much weight as other mods do (dually conversions) and the wheel/tire ratings can be had up to 5000 lbs each side SRW. The problem is that it won't change any of the other ratings (GVWR, Axle, etc). However, it makes it much more stable to drive and you don't have to drive a dually when you're driving it empty the rest of the time.
If you use it a lot for the camper you could look into getting a utility box to put on a F-450. Then you'd have plenty of room to store the extra tools and anything else you might need. I know a guy that travels through here a few times a year and spends some time here in the summer and he has a set up like this on a one ton dodge. Of course without the camper it might be hard to reach over the sides to get to stuff in the bed
