How much does turbo 7.3idi engine weighs?
Hey guys I wanna purchase an engine stand to overhaul my 1994 7.3IDI Turbo engine, but I don't know how much pounds the engine weighs. I don't wanna purchase the wrong engine stand. Can anyone help?? Also can anyone recommend a complete overhaul manual for this engine?

This question pops up every so often... technically the weight of the bare long block is in the 900's, (920 lbs according to several sites including this one... http://www.blueovaltrucks.com/tech/6_9-7_3-IDI.htm) but is typically around the 1,200 lb mark with all the accessories. At any rate, it's waaaaay to heavy for a 700 lb stand. You would be very sorry. Buy or rent a heavy duty stand.
The best manual I have found so far is the Haynes Diesel Tech Book. It covers Ford 6.9/7.3 IDI, early powerstrokes, and GM 6.2/6.5 engines. It has much better and in depth engine info than the chilton manuals that cover the entire truck, but get both.

I have both the Haynes and the Chilton diesel manuals neither one is worth taking home if you want to do more than change the oil and a filter or 2 the best manual is from helm if they have any left for your year model.
Helm Incorporated: Search Results
there is a CD that is the same thing I have several for different vehicles
If you send me a pm with your email I will send you a link to their website ( I don't know why but the forum won't let me post a link in a thread or even a PM.)
short of Helm it the most complete manual i have found for ford trucks.(it covers more than just the diesel engine.)

Just pulled one off the orange harbor freight 750# stand after stripping it to a rolling short block.
It was a fully dressed motor when i put it on the stand. The stand head sagged a bit, and there was not going to be any rotating that motor... but it sat on it this whole time on plywood with no problems. I would not recommend anyone else try what i tried tho... that is way to much weight for a stand with only 3 points of floor contact. Breaking the head bolts loose... wow, the pucker factor slapped me a few times.
Save yourself the headache and use the 1ton stand.
I have added pneumatic tires to mine for moving these things around on rough terrain.
I pull these motors in driveways... and cranes dont roll so well on rocks.

I believe undressed means no accessory brackets, manifolds, etc. what good is it to know the weight of the block? Does your floor have a rated weight capacity?
To add a little info to the thread topic, when I pulled my motor, I used a 2000lb hoist, but had to fully extend it wich made it a 1000lb hoist. I had no problems. I bought the hoist at autozone... Price was reasonable.
