AC running

Is it normal for the AC to run when useing the heater on a 97 class A motor home with a 460 Ford engine?

The AC pump will kick in at times that don't initially seem to make sense. The compressor will run, for example, when the defrost position is selected even if the heat is turned all the way up. This helps dry the air and exercise the AC system so the seals don't dry up.

On most Fords, the A/C will run in all switch settings except OFF, VENT, and FLOOR.
