Another small gremlin has popped up in my truck, 88 F-150 with M5 5speed. I am noticing a small amount of vibration in the stick, accompanied by a "whirring" sound, when shifting into 2nd and 4th gears. This noise and vibration is only present when the clutch is depressed, and so far only in 2nd and 4th, but it isn't present all the time. I have noticed that if I goose the accelerator while the noise is present the pitch of it changes with the speed of the motor.
It would seem to me that I have a bearing down there on the input shaft that has gone bad, but I'm not that familiar with transmissions. Looking at an on-line parts list there is a pilot bearing and a release bearing, so I'm assuming one of those has give out. This site has helped me chase down many issues in the past, I'm hoping someone here can help with this one too.
