New Ex owner here...

Just wanted to post up and say hello, and that I will probably be needing advice from several of you in the near future. I have always thought the Excursions were bad@ss, and this past week presented me with the opportunity to buy one at a price I couldn't pass up.

I wasn't really in the market for one, but I passed by an Ex sitting in a parking lot on my way to Destin, FL last week. It is a black 2000 XLT V10 with 134,000 miles on it. The paint and gray leather interior are both in excellent condition. This thing is spotless. I have checked the Carfax and verified mileage as well as the fact that it has never been wrecked. There is some rust under the vehicle, and that is probably due to the fact it spent 8 years in New Hampshire (road and sea salt) before coming down South. Anyway, I took it for a test drive, checked the fluids, lights, powered-everything, etc... the one thing that didn't work was that the passenger front window does not roll down and the second row headrests are MIA. They were asking $7000, and that might have actually been a reasonable asking price, but I told the lady "I have $3500 cash in my pocket right now and I do not have a local bank, so that is all I can offer you" (I had a wad of cash to pay for some game fishing in the Gulf). She initially said "no", but then her husband pulled up and told his wife that his mother had free tickets to the Belmont Horse race in New York if they could somehow come up with the $$ for a last minute flight and hotel in NYC. This was as I was getting back in my car and continuing my journey south. The lady sprinted to my car and asked if I really had the cash on me. Once I confirmed, she said "It's a deal". Apparently she really wanted to make it to that horse race

So, regardless of the amount of work it requires to clean up the rust, fix the window, and replace the headrests, I still drove away in a new-to-me Excursion for $3500. It was a deal I couldn't pass up.

I look forward to learning from you guys and also sharing my knowledge in the future.

You're on an island! Don't beat yourself up since most car prices go out the window there.
