Computer for 302 same for 351W? PLEASE HELP
I didn't have to change anything on the fuel delivery system. Everything is the same as the 302.
groundrat,
Intake was changed. And the 351w IS mass air.
Jim Duck,
The exhaust, as loudfords stated, is different. I thought about using the stock exhaust, but found out quickly that it is different. The engine deck is also about 1" higher than that of a 302.
I do recommend talking to an exhaust shop about exactly what you plan on doing with the truck. This way they can tell you what type of components to use for maximizing performance for your application. Myself, I drive on the highway a lot as well as tow a trailer and boat AND I hunt in the mountains during the hunting season. Therefore, I need torque more than horsepower. It cost me $630 for a custom single exhaust. It is a complete 3" system all the way back from the manifolds. It contains a hi-flow cat. and flowmaster muffler. It has a nice low rumble at idle and a growl while accelerating and really quiet on the road. It was put together very well.
I have also decided to go ahead and install a computer for the 351w since it seems to be a concensus to do so.
Thanks.
Mark
Mine didn't. The 302 manifolds were 1" too short. The 351w manifolds were different diameters/angles. Unless I threw on a 351w stock exhaust, I'd have to put on a completely new system....which I did and am VERY happy I did. I think it was well worth it. I think, aside from the computer and the exhaust, everything was a simple swap with no other cash outlay for the job.
