Battery Light 97 Ranger
I have a 1997 Ford Ranger with 86,000 miles. I have had it only a few months but today the battery light started flashing. It only does it when the rpm's fall to 1000 or below (so usually only does it when idling). I took it to AutoZone to have the alternator and battery checked. The guy there said the battery was good as was the alternator. He suggested my serpentine belt may be bad but I just had a new one put on a couple of weeks ago. Any suggestions????? One guy told me it may be some sort of idler motor thingy??????
I'm leaning towards the voltage regulator which is part of the alternator. I would also make sure all the connections are tight and clean, including the battery.
When working on the system disconnect the negative cable from the battery first and reconnect as the last connection, this is a safety precaution.
