97 F.250 speedometer stops working

I have a 97 f.250 that will be driving and the speedometer stops and the rpms jump around 200 more. And the mileage stops reading and over drive flashes. And it shifts hard as hell. And then sometimes it will start working normal again and others I just shut it off and later it will work. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

On top of the rear diff is a sensor. VSS. Check it to see if it is dirty/corroded.
