How much and where to buy?

I'll play guinea pig if it's not ridiculously overpriced.

What's the purpose? Why would I want to fight with my smartphone and my key when I just need to fumble with my key without this magic gizmo?

I see 3 nice features here.

One - make sure your truck is locked by simply looking at your phone. For those times you 'can't remember' if you locked it.

Two - remote start from any distance. The factory key has pitiful distance.

Three - alarm notification from any distance. Nice feature for when you leave your truck somewhere outside overnight.

I wouldn't pay $500 but it would be nice to have. I wonder if the installation would require a PCM flash??

This showed up on my FB news feed last week. After searching a bit you can get it through Tasca or other online parts suppliers for about $420. Then after you install it you need to go to dealer and 1) hope the dealer knows what the heck you're talking about (they probably won't) and 2) allow them to reflash your PCM to accept it. Its suppose to be plug and play and reflash. If you're lucky they'll only try and hit you up for a shop hour for the reprogram. Then you need to subscribe to the service at $50/yr.

The bad is that its still very beta and uses the cellular network just like the Viper system that been on the market for several years. Google that for reviews. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. When it does there is still lag from the time you hit the button of 45 seconds to minutes depending on where you are. Still....I want one.

Well, this post pretty much killed it for me.

The $400 isn't a big deal. The reflash takes me out and the fact it doesn't work very reliably and there's a yearly fee just takes it over the top.

I'll pass for now....

I have the Viper SmartStart. It's been good. Added the GPS feature so I can look where my truck is 24/7. If you don't like the delay, they have an optional remote you can purchase but the 2011+ usually have remote start already. The biggest pro for me is if I'm a couple hundred yards from the truck, I can start it and let it warm up or cool the cab. It's also nice on long hot trips. I can set it to stay running for a few minutes to let the turbos cool without sitting in the truck.

Towards the end if the video, the fine print says you get a whole 3 days of complimentary service. REALLY? A whopping three days! They shouldn't have.

Too bad. I like the concept for the long range starting. The wifes Lacrosse has On Star and we can start it from inside the movie theater in the winter, very nice.

Don't care for the annual fee on top of the one time fee. Do admit...On Star prices it the same. I only have it for her for the "help me" mode.

Well this sounds like a pretty good setup..........if it works on Black Berrys! Been trying to hook a Viper system on mine for the past few weeks and apparently not supported for Black Berrys?!?! Wonder if its the same with Ford? Didn"t state it in the video......

Industry isn't putting much towards integrating new products or existing ones with crack-berry devices. The writing is pretty much on the wall when it comes to RIM...or whatever they call themselves now.
