Ford's remote start is available with bi-directional - i.e. telling you whether the truck has started (depending on what model you ordered)
It also should work a lot further than what you are quoting (Ford says up to 1000 ft, clear line of site), I am guessing your batteries are running out or there is a problem.
I guess its possible the battery could be weak, but its a brand new 13 so it shouldnt be. the bi directional would be much better, mine doesnt have that but still even if it actually worked from 1000 ft thats not nearly far enough, walls and cars and whatever diminish the range, some aftermarket have 5280 ft range, factory need to step it up. Without being bi directional they really suck. Its not fun thinking you started it in the winter and find out it didnt work because you were too far away, trust me ive been there, lol!
Ok, so prices on this have dropped below $300 at several online Ford Parts sites. Can anyone else confirm that this can be installed on rigs with the factory remote start system without having to involve the dealership?
I installed this in my 2012 F-250. I purchased it on line from a dealer in Louisiana. My truck has the stock remote start so I didn't need the hood switch or antenna as those were already on my vehicle. Installation was fast and simple, just plug and play. The dealer I purchased it from was able to activate it for me over phone. I also activated the security feature on it so if someone breaks into my truck it sounds the horn and flashes the lights and also sends a text to my phone alerting me of the break in. It works great, it's very nice to have the added range for the remote start which I'll need for the up-coming Montana winter. Here's the installation instructions if you're interested, they cover a number of different vehicles so you'll just have to page through them to find your particular vehicle. http://www.fordservicecontent.com/fo...k3-15-2013.pdf I believe that if you don't have the factory remote start, adding this in conjunction with the hood switch and antenna gives you that feature. I believe you'd need to go to the dealer though to get it set up.
Thanks guys. So it is required to be activated by the dealer.
Yes, but if you already have remote start it can be done over the phone in about ten minutes, I believe there's people in this forum that have access Dealer Tools on the Ford Accessories site that might be willing to do it for you, or if you buy it on-line a lot of times whoever you buy it through can activate it for you if you don't want or have time to deal with your local dealer. There is also an annual fee for the service of $49 you have to pay.
Something else you guys might be interested in, have you ever left your house and forget or wonder if you forgot to close the garage door ? I'm getting one of these to install, it looks pretty cool and there's no annual fee that has to be paid unlike the Ford remote start. Mobile GDO
Hey, that mobile garage door opener thing looks pretty cool. Seems fairly straightforward to install. Clearly there was a geeky gearhead who thought, "This shouldn't be that difficult."
Does that app tell you if your car is locked on the screen? Looking at the pics of the app both lock and unlock are options on the screen but I can't tell if there is a difference between the icons so that you know the status.

Here's the users guide for the iPhone for this that explains everything in detail. https://my.fordremoteaccess.com/Remo...ual_iphone.pdf
Once the operation has been completed the screen turns back to normal so it doesn't always show you the current status of the locks at all times if that's what you're wondering. Hey bridge, how did your stereo install end up turning out ?
