voltage regulator question

The battery has to have at a least 8 volts for the ignition to work

1)Battery is dead ?

2) Cables attached to the battery are dirty

3) Alternator isn't charging.

The battery should be charged witha battery charger.

Don't try and charge it with the alternator.

voltage regulator question

How long are you leaving the booster cables on before removing them?

Why don't you charge the battery first?

We have to eliminate certain possibilities.

By not continuing running I would guess there is "NOT a Complete Circuit" which usually means the battery is shot.
