Re-Gearing?

in my 84 f-250, i'm running 265/75R16's right now, which i believe are about 31's, with 3.54 gears in my dana70 out back and dana44ttb out front, also with a t-18/t-19 4sp manual tanny with a 6.69:1 first gear ratio.

i was wondering if i'm going to have to (or should) re-gear so that i can get a little more punch to move the tires, i am interested in the 35x13.50R16 SuperSwamper LTB's with a 6" lift

and what gears should i goto, 4.10 or lower?

There's a calculator. BTW, your tires now are 31.6". A 4.10 ratio puts you at about the same engine RPM with the larger 35s. 3.73s are pretty close, too. Guess it depends on how much highway driving you want to do, or how much gas you want to burn.

With 35" tires I would run 4.56's. I'm running 4.56 now with 33" tires and would not want to run 35's with 4.10's. I have run 33's with 4.10's and that was a good combo. This is on 3/4 and one ton 4x4 trucks with non-overdrive automatics and 350/351 engines. Your rear axle is likely a Dana 60, as the Dana 70 is a dually axle.

yeah, i would think that it was a dana60 too, but the weird thing is, that there is a big "70" stamped in the case of the diff, and i talked to some other guys on this forum and thats how they found them to be different

i dunno, maybe it is, maybe it isnt, it dosent seem likely that it would be, but some things like that happen....... don't they
