Hello everyone. In the next day or two I will be making the jump from a 2010 GMC Sierra 2500 to a 2013 F150 Ecoboost Crewcab 6.5' box. I have narrowed my search down to 2 trucks. One is an XLT (cloth, non bucket seats, normal XLT package) and the other one is a Lariat (leather, bucket seats, heated/cooled, and remote start. Dealer is including spray-in bed liner and soft tonneau cover).
If I go with the XLT I am going to have after market leather installed, heated seats, the spray-in bed liner, tonneau cover, and the remote start. Apples to apples comparison has the XLT about $4,000 less. I do prefer the bucket seats but can see the possible use of the 6th seat in the middle in the XLT.
I typically change vehicles every 4-5 years (I know that I haven't had the GMC that long but I don't tow very often and don't need to get 12-13 mpg the 355 days a year I don't tow something). My question is do you think the Lariat will hold $4,000 in value 4-5 years down the road?

I would go for the lariat more bang for the buck, also would opt for the 5.0 difference in mpg and power is minimal at best, ford is still messing with the intercooler on the eco

Welcome to FTE!!
I'd say that if you intend to upgrade an XLT then you'd be better off getting the lariat. Upfront cost is higher and so is resale if that's important to you.

The 2011 and early 2012 model year trucks had a few issues. I've yet to see any issues regarding the 2013 ecoboost trucks as the 2013 trucks have incorporated a fix that was implemented during the latter part of the 2012 model run. This isn't to say that there aren't some issues still at large, just none posted here.
It's not important to me what someone buys only that we offer the correct information during this person's research.
If possible, my advise would be to drive the ecoboost and the 5.0L trucks. Some like the sounds of the V-8 and some like it quiet and smooth. They will both deliver about the same MPG's unloaded and they both deliver amazing power.

You can pick up a 2008 (5yrs old) Lariat for around $20k today. Not sure what MSRP was back in 2008, but my guess would be north of $32K.
So, you will probably see more than $4k drop in what you paid for it, 4-5yrs down the road. I would get the truck that best suits your needs and don't look back.

I have the same seat configuration in my '13 STX, and believe me, it is a tight squeeze with 3 up front...
Thanks for the replies everyone. Our travel trailer's Max weight is 10,000 lbs so it pretty much limits me to the eco boost. Before I typed this thread I was leaning towards the Lariat and the looks like the truck I will probably get.
I would go with a lariat. It will hold more value than the xlt over time.
My brother went with a xlt and I went with a lariat. He wishes he had the options I do and should have got a lariat. He hates the cloth seats. He came out of an 08 King Ranch so it was a big step down in the trim department.
Before finalizing your purchase I would check the tongue weight of your trailer against the actual cargo capacity of each truck and make sure there's enough capacity for the tongue weight and any passengers/cargo you want to haul in the truck. Lariats tend to be heavier than XLTs because of additional options, so usually have less cargo capacity. The actual capacity for the vehicle will be on the tire load sticker on the driver's door. Also recommend you look at a max tow vehicle with a 10k lb trailer.
Do you mean that after all the upgrades to the XLT that it will still be $4K less than the Lariat?
That's about right from when I bought mine last month.
As for what's the best choice, it really depends. EVERYTHING on the truck depreciates over time, including all of those Lariat extras. It's a regressive curve, and the longer you have the truck the closer the values will be to each other. My Excursion is 13 years old, and KBB says my Excursion Limited is worth only $400 more than an XLT. When brand new back in 2000 the price difference was $3,995.
That $4,000 difference depreciated down to $400 over the course of 13 years. The same will happen to your truck, albeit less because you won't have it that long. Get what makes you happy; my budget afforded me the XLT and I like it.
I am going thru a similar thing right now (but it would have to be a used Lariat as there is about an 6-8k difference). I would choose the Lariat for all of the extra options, but as I looked at the trucks and what I need it for, I am going with the XLT with the 302 package and will do the Katzkin leather. The Lariats sure are nice - but we have a large price difference because of rebates on the XLT's currently. Good luck with your choice.
I am also looking at base model supercrew xlt 2wd with the 3.55 elect diff - so the trucks you are looking at might get closer in price as they go up in packages.
I have a 2013 F150 Supercrew Lariat (with the Tow Package) sitting in my garage. Was still going back and forth between the XLT the Lariat and just holding on to my old truck all day. I had an appointment at 2 pm today with the dealership. They upped their offer and it was a deal I couldn't refuse. Got them to increase their offer to also include the tonneau cover and the spray-in bed liner. The truck will have to go back in once the cover is in to get installed. That is when they are going to install the bed liner also.
The truck is very nice. Getting used to driving with the big mirrors is going to take a bit to get used to. The seats are a little narrower and a little harder than my GMC but hopefully they just need to be broken in. Other than that many, many superior features compared to my GMC.
