Has anyone tried swapping out the 5.4 for a 351w or none modular engine

I'm having issues with my truck the trans is in great shape the rest of the truck is in great shape i dont want to deal with the modular design anymore. Has anyone tried swapping out for a 351w or 302?

You would have to disable all electronic engine/trans/emissions controls. I'm not seeing this as a viable alternative in most states where emissions are checked at safety inspections. Now for a farm truck or race truck you can do whatever you want but not if its going on the highway, at least until it can get an antique license plate.

Sure you could, however it would be cost prohibitive and you would need a new transmission also and rework everything in the truck. There is nothing on a 4.6 or 5.4 that can't be fixed. For volume of engines built there is a repair for every issue and they are normally reliable for 200k+.

It's analogous to riding from coast to coast on a Moped. Yes it could be done, but.....

Anything is possible if you want to spend the time and money necessary, which in this case would be lots of both. Also as 1saxman said this would be illegal to drive on the street in many states. The phrase square peg in a round hole comes to mind.

The 5.4 motor is INTERNAL balance... the older 351W is EXTERNAL balance....... you better use the right flywheel and harmonic balance or you will tear the crap out of the motor / vibration.
