A 351 would have been nice but I didn't have the extra money it would have taken to get a complete motor and change my exhaust. I've found those "simple, direct fit" swaps end up taking longer and costing more than you ever intended to spend. The little things like accessories, distributor, exhaust and whatnot nickel and dime you to death.
A regular carb'd 351 is 139hp/278tq, that's got nothing on a 5.0HO
The 351HO which is the one I would have gone for is 210hp@4000rpm and 305tq@2800rpm, while the 5.0HO is 225hp@4200rpm and 300tq@3200rpm.
So really the power band is pushed up a couple hundred rpm and the numbers are pretty close. With an auto and 4.10 gears, I'm not worried.
