Will a set of axles off a 96 f350 work? Idk what the rear is but i ts bigger and different then the d60 cuz the dana 60 is in the fron. Also swaping in new axles would mean new hangers and springs right because the highboy has skinny rear leafs?
The dana 44 will handle the power and 35's just fine. Just inspect the splines to make sure they are twisted or starting to twist and make sure you have good u-joints. YOu can always upgrade the axle shafts if need be.
The dana 60 in the rear is more than capable for what you are describing.
I have raced one of my mud bog trucks with a dana 44/4:56 gears/38.5 inch TSL boggers for 4 years and never had a problem.
