Just bought a 1987 f-350 4x4 flatbed truck. It has a 7.3 diesel,4 speed manuel , and 4.10 rears.Nice clean well maintained truck, but it only goes approximately 45mph @ about 22-2300 rpm's. Am I missing something here?I bought it at an equipment auction and plan on reselling it. It was listed as having a 5 spd ,but the # on the transmission are 13-09 065 911,which is a 4 spd. Please help, i'm tired of going slow.
Taller tires or a different R&P, or both...
I'm not sure about the ratios in Diesel trucks but the T-19 in my '87 460 had 6.32:1 first gear.
That is really deep in combo with 4.10's, and a torquey diesel should have no problems with 3.55's or even 3.08's if you don't haul heavy loads.
The ZF 5 speed would be nice, but it is only about 0.75:1 overdrive, and the s42 diesel has a 4.14 first gear.
