Brighter Backup Lights - Help Please

So on the 6.7 I put a Ranch Hand Bumper with dual 6.5" x 2.5" Oval backup lights. They appear to have a standard backup light bulb (not Sure of the number ). I would like to either replace bulb with a high intensity or real bright bulb or buy a replacement housing/lights if needed.
Lots of time I need lights doing work at night . I was thinking to tie into an upfitter switch where I could either have them normally work - when in reverse or turn switch on while truck is parked.

Anyone done this or have any ideas/suggestions? I don't know much about halogen or LEDs but I know they make some pretty bright stuff these days..

All help appreciated..

If you post the bulb number, I'll look up some LED equivalents. That's the way to go for bright light. However, they don't generate heat. So they don't melt the snow. It was a problem for me up here with my fogs and back-up lights being LED. That being said, you may not have that issue in Austin.

So there could be LED replacement that just exchange bulbs?? That would be simplest - Thanks for help - I'll get number..

Edit - It seems to be a sealed unit - Throw away when bulb goes out...

I can't help with the bulbs but I wired mine to the AUX2 upfitter; I recommend this.
It is easy to turn them on at night when backing up and they aren't used during the day.
Plus you can turn them on when needed like you mentioned.

The only issue I run into is sometimes I forget to turn them off and end up driving down the road a short distance until I notice it.

You want control of them independent of normal reverse lights. Bright lights in reverse make it impossible to back a trailer. You're totally blinded by the reflection from the nose of the trailer......

Good point - wouldn't be an issue with the GN that I pull most of the time but I know a couple of enclosed cattle trailers that it would be a problem with.

Savage -

Would something like this be a lot brighter - or just sealed up better - more durable?

Sorry link didn't work - but similar to what you just posted

Same concept, but that is almost double the price. Both sites give the dimension of the unit. I'd measure your grommet/existing lens and order the one that fits best. Good luck...

The KC lites have almost double the LED's and are likely brighter, but I don't trust anyone's specs unless they list lumens. However, the KC's will likely be brighter based on the number of LED's.

Yeah but they're nice, although mine aren't LED.

If you are looking for a brighter light, I would steer clear of LED's (unless you get some super bright/expensive models - even then the housing won't work that well with LED's, even if you can get ones that directly fit), unless you completely replace the housing (the best ones I have seen are Rigid's)

I would personally stay with the standard ones you have - you can probably find brighter incandescent bulbs. It looks like bulb type 1141, but not really sure - but if you take the bulb out and take it into an auto parts store they should be able to give you the options.
