Hey Guys,
My truck has lost power in the past day or so.It will not go over 60 or 3000 rpm. I was trying to merge onto the interstate and couldn't get upto speed. It feels like what I would image a plugged exhaust would feel like. There are no service engine lights on.What should I check first?
What year??? It could be a clogged cat you can unbolt it and see if it acts normal except for being loud, pre 05 will not cause a check engine light with the cat unbolted.
My 1995 F-150 did that. Over about 3000 RPM it would just lay down and go slower the more throttle I gave it. It was a clogged catalytic converter. To check it, disconnect your exhaust at the Y pipe and go for a ride. You'll know right away if you fixed the issue.
^^^ x 3 , sounds like a plugged cat . If it is ... find out why it is ! Missfires , lean run , oil burner ...ect . They do go bad on their own , but usually something helps them go bad . IME
Thanks for the input guys. The truck is a 2004. I replaced the fuel filter and air filters, They were due anyway. Didnt fix the problem. I tried to loosen the exhaust bolts , But they are rusted on. Sprayed them with PB Blaster and waiting on it to work . RICK.

Having a bad cat reminds me of that commercial where the guy is pulling an anchor down the freeway. Happened to me years ago with another vehicle and slowing affected performance until I couldn't get up to speed on on ramps.
Then enough was enough.
