Finally made it back!

Hey guys I am both sad and happy to say I made it back to FTE. I have been real sick and thankfully have only 3 months left of teatment. The anemia and low white cell count has kept me out of garage. For some reason my gallery is gone, I will put up more pictures. I'm at a weird crossroads on the truck. I've been thinking of buying a CV P71 for donor car and stripping everything out of it thus giving me newer running gears but, I love the Y-block. If I stay with Y then I am going to put on my tri-power no matter what gas cost. Do you guy's think the 4.6 would be better to have than the Y. Oh yeah if I stay with Y then I'm going T5 trans. Any suggestions would be nice. Thanks Kurt, Y-blocks Rule!

Welcome back Kurt! glad to hear your health is improving and you want to get back to work on your truck. Having a positive outlook goes a long ways in speeding up recovery.

AFA your drive train choice, it's really a matter of personal choice, do what makes YOU happy! There are pros and cons both ways, but there is no one right answer, that's what makes hot rodding fun, it's a personal expression.

Yeah AX that's what I though on drive train. I tend to do the opposite of standard norm, for example I put a 54 grille on my 54 instead of the chrome 56 grille it had when I got it. I'm thinking Y-Block will stay for one reason, it runs and I also have a spare complete spare that was rebuilt. But what I've read about the suspension exchange is interesting. There is a Jag in the wrecking yard with full suspension but that's an older more expensive upkeep I believe. Have a great day mine are getting better I now look forward to what tomarrow will bring. IMHO the Jag is a nice easy to install suspension, the wear parts are available at most parts houses and no more expensive than for American brands. An IFS is going to be problematic with the front sump Y block pan though. The y block with tri-power and T5 would be sweet!

By the way, your gallerys are still intact. just click on your user name in any post and select view gallery in the drop down.

Well I'm not quite able to work on it yet, but I'm well enough to want too and that in itself is an amazing thing. I think the first thing I need to do is put on the tri-power. I still need to figure out how to set up/adjust them. But that's why I joined here for all the great advice. Kurt Y-Blocks rule!

to set up your tripower setup, First make sure all three carbs are in tip top shape, rebuild if necessary (and be sure they are actually tri power carbs, not just 3 random two barrel carbs. The end ones will not have chokes)
Next go to Edelbrock or Speedway's web site and order a Uni-syn tool.
Be sure the throttle linkage you have is for street use, not for racing. As you move the main rod, only the center carb throttle plate should start to open, as you continue to advance it, when the center carb plate is ~ 1/3 open, the two outer carb throttle plates should begin opening. All three should reach full open together. This is known as progressive linkage, The engine runs on the center carb for economy and good street manners until you mash the pedal then the other two open to give full WOT.
If none of the carbs have chokes, and/or all 3 carbs open together, you have a straight linkage racing setup. A racing setup can be converted to a street setup by replacing the linkage and possibly the center carb if it doesn't have a choke.

I do have the extended throttle shafts and even have 2 extra I bought at local rod run, the guy said they were rebuilt and they do look it. I posted a picture of the manifold. The rubber fuel line will just be to get it running then I want to get a SS fuel rail

I say stay with the Y-Block. There has got to be a way to turn the sump around so ya can use the IFS and T5 or T6. Love the Tri Set.
