I was hanging out with a friend the other day and for whatever reason he grabbed the axleshaft on the front axle and it didn't move. asked why my truck was in 4wd, and i said it wasn't.
Truck is a 2002 5.4 4x4
If my truck is in 2wd I believe the hubs should unlock and the axle shafts should spin freely.
I'm almost positive that the issue is hub related and I assume vacuum related. when i move the switch into 4wd or 4lo the driveshaft will spin, when i put it in 2wd it will no longer spin. So i think that rules out any transfer case issues.
I removed the vacuum lines to the hubs. and plugged each side and it creates a strong vacuum when switched into 4wd and a weaker vacuum when switched out.
As far as i know i have no HVAC issues. When AC/heat is on and 4wd is switched on it doesn't default to defrost.
I had the balljoints replaced by a local offroad shop, and all the hub seals were replaced. however i believe everything worked before hand.
A little confused and trying to figure out where to go from here. I tried to provide all relevant information that i could.
Well I pulled both hubs off broke them down cleaned regreased with mobil 1 and I believe something is wrong with the drivers side. The bottom piece (closest to turn ****) will not stay compressed. If you press it down the hub will be unlocked then as soon as the inner spindle is moved you hear a click /pop and the hub becomes locked. Is there a way to replace that one piece or is it time to replace that one hub? Passenger side now works fine other then being stiff to rotate.
