Starting issues PLEASE HELP!!!!
I have a 76 F100 6cyl(300) that I am restoring. My issue is that the truck will turn over and even start for a second but I can not keep it running. I just replaced the carb, hoping that that would fix it but its exactly the same. It has been many years since the truck has been running, and I have gone through and lubed all the cylinders before I tried cranking. I have checked the timing, and have even made sure spark is getting to the new spark plugs. Does anyone have any suggestions? Please help!

My dad always told me to look for air, fuel, and spark if you can't get an engine to run. I know this is simple stuff, and I'm not sure how many of these you've already done, but I've had all these happen to me at one time or another...
Spark: Has the distributor been replaced since the truck ran last? Wires are hooked up in the right firing order? Timing isn't 180 out? Plugs are gapped right and all? Still have the ignition module connected? Maybe get that module tested to see if it's good.
Fuel: Are you getting pressure to the fuel filter? Do you get a squirt of fuel when you press the throttle by hand? You might get a meter for your fuel pressure and find out if it's in the right range for your carb. Not trying to run old gas?
Air: What kind of choke are you running? Is the choke set up right? Got any vacuum ports open?
Hope that gives you a few ideas. There's plenty of smart people on here. Sooner or later someone will getcha going.

This helps a bunch, thank you! I know my timing is correct, my sparkplug wires are in order, I have a bottle that I am using as a gas tank right now so that I'm not pulling old gas or crap from the tank. I pulled the distributor cap off and all the points look surprisingly clean. There is a vacuum port on my carb that is not being used, so I will try closing that. My ignition module is new BUT I was missing one of the connector pieces on the red/white wires so I had to cut it off of the module and connect it wire-to-wire. It would be nice if I had a factory wire color chart, or something simple so that I could make sure the wires are right but I'm 90% sure it's correct. I will keep you posted on what I find out today after work, and if you think of anything else please suggest! I feel like this is something simple but I just need another brain to help me solve the problem!

So the red wire needs to be connected to the white wire, and the white wire needs to be connected to the red wire? The reason I ask is because I am missing the male and female connectors so I have to connect wire to wire.

I cant thank you enough! The truck is now running after 15+ years! Now I need to move on to the brakes so I can test drive it. Thanks again!
The Duraspark factory connector and harness switch the color on the 'run' and 'start' wires...

Sometimes it's the simple stuff that can stump us the most, though Ford didn't help matters much by swapping the red/white wires around.
