possible 2000 X purchase
Hello all,
We are looking into buying a newer expedition(1999-2002) or a 2000 Excursion. I know nothing about these vehicles( Jeep man myself but could not convince the wife to get a grand ).
So what are some known problems, bad years, things to look for when buying or just common knowledge we should know?
(Only reply about the Excursion please. I already posted this same post in the expedition section, thanks).
We just found a 2000 X limited with 6.8 V10. Loaded like I guess most are. Has 46,951 miles and asking $26K. Sound like a good deal?
What gears come in these vehicles? Limited slip? What kinda mileage?
Thanks for any info you can give us!!

I purchased my Excursion about three years ago. I have a 2k V10 XLT 4X4 model with 4.30 gears. I've had few problems. Pinion seal, idle air controller. Nothing to make me wish I hadn't bought it. When I got the Ex. I was in Colorado on vacation and blew up the engine in my 88 F150. That truck had 246,000 miles. I wasn't going to repair the old beast so I went looking. My wife and I had been looking at Expeditions for about 6 months the previous year and decided that we didn't want to make payments again unless we had to... So when I went looking I was considering the Expedition first, but when I drove the Excursion there was no doubt about it. I fell in love with the truck. The dealership where I bought it has a 4X4 course where I could check it out and see just how well it performed. That was the final point which helped me decide. When I decided to buy it I wasn't sure the salesman was telling me th truth about the mileage. My thoughts were to buy it and drive it for a couple of years, then trade it in for a new pickup if gasoline mileage wasn't what I desired. This Excursion gets about 13 on the highway, anywhere from 10 to 11.5 in town. I've never looked back. From reading the posts over the last few months, I believe there are several more folks out there who, like me, love their Excursion. I hope I've helped you in your decision process.
