Front Spring and Shock Selection
I am about to replace the front springs and shocks on my 97 E-150 High top conversion. I see two springs listed.
Moog CC876 & CC874, I am assuming I want the CC876 spring as my van is 2965KG or 6500lbs.
What shock is recommend with towing in mind?
Are there any fellow Canadians here that buy from RockAuto and ship up to The Great White North? What extra charges are there??
Cheers

On shocks, mine had the HD conversion package and the factory shocks were *almost* ok; changed them out for Sensa Tracs all around when Sears was having a "free installation" special. $240 out the door in late 2011, at 99,518 miles. Took the Sears guy about 2.5 hours to do one of the rear shocks so I was grateful that I didn't think about doing them myself. Plus I had a triple spinal fusion in 2011 so I don't push the bod like I used to.
I like the Sensa Tracs but I do not tow or carry heavy loads often. In prior lifetimes, I put some really heavy duty Gabriel "Red Ryders" on an '86 GMC 2500 conversion and it rode like a rock and made people sitting in the rear bench hit the ceiling on big heaves after the change. I also put KYB's on an old Land Crusher I had and it rode like a rock before I changed out the shocks, and like a slightly better damped rock after I changed out the shocks...
I think the Monroes may be adequate for your needs, but consider the service life. If you want them to last 100k more miles, something like KYB or Bilstein might be worth it for you. (I have had SAAB's and BMW's with OEM Bilsteins and those last forever.)
Good luck,
George
Shocks I'd go with Bilstein because they're amazing and carry a lifetime guarantee too. I'm running them on a 2000 E250 all the around, when previously in use my daily driver weight was 7800# on an 8600# GVWR. They're a great improvement but a bit pricey for some. Here's the site I've used: Bilstein Shocks, KW Suspensions and much more: eShocks.com
