Transmission question
Just got my truck back together after rebuilding the trans (4100) and put all the fluid in. I put it in in different times and started the motor and put it in all gears a couple times. I have 17qts in and started up the truck. Backed out of driveway with no probs and put it in to drive and the truck wouldn't move fwd. I went to 1st gear and it went forward...went to 2nd and it didn't want to go fwd much. Tried it again the next day and got pretty much the same results. Does any one have any advice for me on this ? 2000 f350 sd

Were all the clutch packs air checked during assembly? Did it feel as though it were slipping after engagement? Putting the gear selector in "2" will command the trans to start off in Second and will take a bit more effort and TC stall to get going. Have you tried the trans with the truck up on stands to see if it will shift through all the gears without a load?

You said you have 17 quarts in, but didn't say the level is correct. Is it? If not, that has to be fixed first.
If the level is correct, then my guess is that you have the OD one way clutch installed backwards. It needs to hold when the trans is in OD first gear. The coast clutch is on in M1 first gear, which will do the job of the one way clutch.

I will check and get back to you. I just added what the book said and didn't want to over fill
