I might be joining the Ford 9" bandwagon. A friend has a junked '80 Ford Bronco. It has a limited slip 3.50:1 9". If I do get it it would be the only major non '51 Ford part. My Dana 44 is good but with 4.27:1 gears and open differential it will make the Flat V-8 rev during highway speeds and get stuck very easily (snow).
Ok, dumb question time from the guy in texas... If you want a low gear ratio for mudding and rock crawling, why would a low gear ratio be bad for snow? Seeing as I've never even seen snow, I feel the need to be enlightened.

You should grab up the posi unit(they're hard to find for a reasonable price) but the housing is about 4" wider than you have in your f-2. 59 to 72 ford truck housings bolt right in according to the people who hang around here. The stock car racers have driven the prices up to around 100 to 150 dollars in the yards in my area.
On the question about snow; A lower ratio brings your engine down a little lower on it's powerband on takeoff and doesn't rev as easilly.
Nathan, were you referring to the limited slip, and not the gear ratio, when you mentioned it wouldn't get stuck so easily? If I remember correctly, the limited slip rear will send some power to both wheels even if one is slipping.
I meant the Dana 44 would get stuck more easily. One thing about snow you need tread on your tires. My brother has a '87 Nissan Pathfinder posi in front and back but had about an 1/8 of thread left on the tires. He got stuck in 4x4. The width wouldn't bother me since I was gonna use my F-1 fenders on my 8 ft box. I was gonna narrow them some. Maybe I won't now.
The 80 Bronco would have 31 spline axles. If I remember right, it should have a Dana 44 in the front end. Wonder if you can swap the gears to your current rearend.
Supposedly the front is wreaked and they used reverse cut gears so it would spin the right way. You wouldn't want the rear going forward and the front going backwards would you?
