I'm trying to get my 66 a little closer to what it looked like in 1966. I need a less expensive way than a new steering wheel from NPD if possible. Has anyone come up with an alternative. I would like to remove the peep's 14" hot rod choice
When it comes to steering wheels, I am amazed at some of the gay and tacky crap people do to molest their trucks with
unorthodox steering wheels...looks like hell.
Finding a used original one that isn't cracked is a tough one...cracked to S%&T ones are ubiquitous on Ebay and at wrecking yards
depending on where you are....I restored my original using a two part epoxy kit available from West Marine (101)...repaired it,
sanded, painted and clear-coated it....three years and still going under the semi-desert sun of the communist state of California.
I have a posting about it under my profile somewhere....
Also used 2 part epoxy to recondition the steering wheel in the 65. Eastwood and/or Por's makes a steering wheel repair kit; Eastwood kits run from $24-$50.
Try keeping the epoxy from getting into the embossed wheel pattern keeping in mind sanding the excess epoxy can be labor intensive and especially sanding between the grooves.
Matt, Thanks for the offer, I would be interested if I can paint it. I'm new to the board and see that everyone sends pm's. since it's not allowed on the board. slathrop66@gmail.com
