I need to know what kind and size differential I have in my 99 e350 box truck? It has the 5.4l and the 4r100 trans. I was cruising about 65mph and I heard a sound like a tire blowing. All tires are fine but now I hear a rumbling noise over 50mph and its definitely coming from the rear end. Any help with this will be greatly appreciated
Its a DWR. it use to be a budget rental truck. I know for a fact that the the yoke going into the housing has a lot of play in it. I whines when I accelerate and goes away when I'm coasting, but now since that noise its rumbling.
after doing some cleaning with the wire brush. I found on the side of the driveshaft I found some more numbers 70HD stamped into the housing. Am I right for assuming its a Dana 70HD differential?
Not all rear axles have crush sleeves. His Dana 70HD uses shims instead. The crush sleeve if for setting proper pinion bearing preload (the bearings require a certain amount of pressure applied to them) NOT for keeping the pinion nut tight. The locking pinion nut does that itself.
